• 1 Introduction
In the introduction I describe how I came upon Family Constellations, what they are and what it is like to take part in one. The connection with The Knowing Field is also explained.
  • 2 The Method
In this chapter I outline the process of constellations and the importance of representative’s perceptions and the feelings that consequently arise. The use of language and communication in constellations will be explained which includes clarifying and resolving statements and the use of rituals, like bowing. On top of that I will explain the basics of constellation work: systemic phenomenology, as well as the specific attitude necessary for the facilitator to conduct a successful constellation.
  • 3 Order of Love
Hellinger’s principles of systemic order and his remarkable vision about the human conscience will be introduced in this chapter. The principles he revealed operate at the foundation of our relationships.
  • 4 Entanglements Within the Family System
In chapter three we saw how every family member has the right to his place as well as the right to belong. Who then, belongs to the family system? What are entanglements and what kind of events lead to these entanglements?
In this chapter we look at the influence that heavy unprocessed traumas, across generations, have on others and us in the family system. These nodal events include maternal death, the premature death of a sibling and wartime experiences. We will also look at Hellinger’s vision about incest, guilt and forgiveness.
  • 5 Family Constellations and Relationships
In this chapter we look at how family constellations can help us bring back harmony into relationships and what partners can do , in the long term, to allow their relationships to bloom. Looking at subconscious loyalty to our forebears, it will become clear how much influence our families have on the quality of our relationships.
We will understand that partners are always each other’s mirrors in relationships and that a good balance of give and take between partners is important. Then we will look at the role that subconscious faith and religion play in our relationships, ways in which abortion can be processed and tools we can use to deal successfully with adoption.
  • 6 Family Constellations and Children
In this chapter we look at the possible causes of child rearing problems and disorders like Attention Deficit (and Hyperactivity) Disorder [AD(H)D], and other related disorders. Then we will discuss loyalty conflicts that burden children in periods of chronic tension between their parents, divorce conflict being a major one. The chapter rounds off with a description of a harmonious table seating arrangement and a number of pointers for parents about what they can do for their children from a constellation perspective.
  • 7 Family Constellations and Disease
The way family constellations can be used to look at illness is the subject of this chapter. An unconscious systemic dynamic is behind illnesses such as anorexia, bulimia, asthma, cancer and chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS). Naturally, my attention covers a wider perspective to include depression, suicide, physical illness and addiction. It will be clear that a healing process will be powerfully aided through constellations and that in many cases healing is only possible with family constellations because this allows people to take distance from their illness.
  • 8 Other Types of Constellations
Over the years, other types of constellations have been developed alongside classic-style family constellations. These include individual, organizational as well as structural constellations. Examples of these are discussed in this chapter as well as table constellations and constellations dealing with inner aspects or inner voices. Furthermore attention will be given to constellations with a multicultural background as well as political constellations. Last but not least, I will describe further developments in Hellinger’s constellation work: namely Movement of the Soul and Movement of the Spirit-Mind.
  • 9 Science and Constellations
From a scientific point of view there are two types of research questions that recur in family and organization constellations. The first one is of a practical nature: how efficient are constellations? The second question is tougher to answer: how can the Knowing Field, present during all constellations, be explained? This I try to explain by Rupert Sheldrakes morphological fields and resonance, the epigenetics of Professor Marcus Pembery among others, genetic sexual attraction, quantum physics and finally we look at the latest research on mirror neurons.
  • 10 Preparing for your own Constellation
In this chapter you will find a questionnaire as well as some guidelines on how to prepare for your own constellation. Various testimonials will show you how constellations operate and what they have meant for those who have set up their own constellations.
I would love to receive any feedback you might have.
